Must see · World heritage site · Historic Site · History Museum
On the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of 11 Australian Convict Sites, Fremantle Prison paints a vivid image of the country's penal-colony history. Convicts built the prison in the 1850s. Today you can explore the prison on a guided tour, including a torch-lit option. Navigate tunnels 20 m (65 ft) beneath the ground on foot and by boat. The prison art gallery sells pieces created by current and ex-prisoners in Western Australia. • Attended the Tour by Torchlight on new years day. Must admit it was bit of an effort to drag ourselves out after new years eve but so pleased we dared to do something different! Our host was fantastic and the tour was very informative with great actors to add the spooky touch. Highly recommend. We have don the day tour the other year and that was equally as informative, next stop tunnel tour!
  • One of the best tours I've ever experienced! The Convict Prison tour, with the very wonderful Moira was fascinating and insightful. The Tunnels tour, with the equally wonderful Sarah, was interesting and immense fun in the boats navigating the water-filled tunnels - especially in the dark. Seriously the best thing we have done in a long time.
