St. Mark's Cathedral, Korcula Town

#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Korcula Island
Church · Tourist Spot
Admire the Gothic-Renaissance style of St. Mark's Cathedral, which dominates the heart of the old town. The statuesque facade of the church, completed in the 16th century, is decorated with intricate reliefs and carvings. Wander inside to view two paintings by the Italian artist Tintoretto and a bronze statue by Ivan Mestrovic. Ascend the bell tower steps for a panoramic view of the old town and the coastline. Although not long, the spiral staircase is very narrow and steep, a potential problem for the elderly and the disabled. • Rarely will you get the opportunity to scale a bell tower without health and safety nets everywhere. Just before walking out onto the top, you have to cross a metal grate, with a significant drop below. Don’t look down. Hold onto your hats and enjoy 360 degree views. Like anywhere, the perfect way to get your bearings.
  • Beautiful old cathedral. Free entry. Make a donation!
