Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espiritu Santo, Sancti Spiritus

#6 of 6 in Historic Sites in Sancti Spiritus Province
Church · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
In the heart of the city stands Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espiritu Santo, the biggest church in Cuba. Towering over the plaza, the church features a simplistic Neo-classical façade with cracked paint and stains around its edges. Inside the church contains an impressive 18th-century wooden statue of Christ "El Señor de la Vera Cruz," which serves as a culturally important monument of the city. Notice the grand white arches that support the church's high ceilings and a mahogany alter lavished with decoration at the end of the hall.
