Salamis Ancient City, Famagusta

4.4
The ruins of the ancient capital of Cyprus, , sits along the eastern coast of the island and preserves bits of what was once a great city-state. Dating back to the 11th century BC Bronze Age, the site today is made up of Roman statues, pillars, chambers, crumbling walls, an extensively restored gymnasium, and a theater that could seat up to 15,000 people. You will also see sections of ancient Roman baths and public spaces, as well as pieces of mosaics and remains of a Byzantine basilica. Take plenty of water and apply sunscreen, as shade is sparse at the site. Salamis Ancient City is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Famagusta Edition.

  • Although the ruins of Salamis are not appreciated by trnc, it is an ancient city that has a very important historical place, entrance fee is 7 to Turks and 5 to students and 9 to other tourists, 6-7 km from The City of Magusa if you come by taxi 70° There is no other public transport so that you can reach it in the form of round trip! Cyprus will be very hot in summer and I do not recommend it much because it is an open-air museum because it takes about 1 hour and you walk around in piles of dirt and shrubs because it is in disrepair. It was in the 11th century BC. A history that dates back to the century, we will demolish it from disrepair in the 2000s with the unbroken hand of hand that has seen many wars and earthquakes!!

  • Real gem and fantastic piece of history. It's a shame that it's not properly maintained and looked after. We visited in August and it was extremely hot, really hard to stand it but there is a beach in front of it so you can take a dip straight away. Water was very hot too though ☀️
  • Amazing ancient ruins to explore. Roman Baths and theatre, beautiful scenery. If visiting in summer take plenty of water and wear a hat.🌞
