Roque Saint-Christophe Fort et Cite Troglodytiques, a 1 k (.5 mi) long and 80 m (87 yd) high limestone cliff in Dordogne, has housed settlements since 55,000 BCE. Five layers of terraces and caves have been naturally carved into the cliff by frost and the Vezere river below.
