Bergpark, Kassel

4.8
Described by art historian Georg Dehio as "possibly the most grandiose combination of landscape and architecture that the Baroque dared anywhere," Kassel's Bergpark is clearly worth a look. The grounds, designed at the beginning of the 18th century, make up the largest mountain park in Europe. Across the grounds, you'll find the striking Wilhelmshöhe Palace, the Lion's Castle, a large greenhouse, and a 250 m (820 ft) waterfall. The most famous monument, however, is the great copper statue of Hercules standing high atop a pyramid. Take the staircase to the 28.5 m (93 ft) high visitor platform, which offers a view of the entire park and city. To plan Kassel vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • Until now, we had only passed by travelling with other destinations, this time thankgod for God not. We had a beautiful, warm and sunny autumn day in this fantastic park, which we really didn't imagine so impressive. Even the water games were parked, as the trees showed themselves in the most beautiful autumn colours. We'll be back for sure!

  • Wow. What a feeling was that when the water fall begins. It happens twice a week, In Sundays and Wednesdays. The best time to visit is during the water fall. The pictures are enough to describe the serenity of the place 😊
  • Be sure to visit on Wednesdays or Sundays. Only then the ingenious water system is activated for a few hours. In the 18th century there were no pumps to provide water to the features, and the old system is still in use as heritage.
