Pay homage to the former two-time Hungarian Prime Minister and leading figure of the Hungarian Revolution, Imre Nagy, at Statue of Imre Nagy. Located close to Parliament, a life-size Nagy looks contemplatively towards the government building where he gave anti-Soviet speeches in hopes of an independent Hungary. The statue was erected in 1996 and commemorates the failed Hungarian Revolution of October 23, 1956, in which Nagy played a key role. He was later captured by the Soviets, and infamously tried, sentenced, and executed in secret. Read up on the history behind the statue before going, as no information is displayed on site. • Interesting statue on a slippery rickety wooden bridge. I guess it belongs to some local popular revolutionist. A pretty good and scenic spot to take pictures with the parliament visible behind.
  • A beautiful memorial statue to a brave and principalled man. You may disagree with his politics but he stood for what he saw as right and gave his life for that belief.
