Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / Glasnevin Cemetery Museum
The history of Ireland is narrated by Glasnevin Cemetery Museum, home to award-winning exhibits and the guardian of personal stories for over 1.5 million people buried there. Dedicated to the known and the unknown who shaped the country's history and helped create the modern nation, the museum covers the burial rituals and beliefs of those who found their final resting place at the cemetery. While there, you can tour the graveyard itself or conduct a genealogy search for your family's history. Within the museum, pay special attention to the Milestone Gallery's timeline, an interactive exhibit outlining the lives of some of the most famous figures buried at the cemetery. Well what can I say.. I was absolutely blown away with this cemetery. Such great heroes and heroines of Ireland buried here. From the great Daniel O Connell to Grace, to Oliver plunnkett, to Diarmuid ... more »
This is an absolutely incredible place. It represents the whole history of modern day Ireland. A tour is essential though. The wonderful Warren, who showed us around, was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to give us great insights into the individuals' lives and deaths. I normally do not enjoy 'tours' but this was more like a clever friend chatting with you. Just absolutely great!
Wanted to do this for so long and eventually got around to do it. Paddy was our guide for the two hours. Absolute Gent, very knowledgeable and very easy to listen too unlike some tour guides who just run through it. Would definitely recommend this even if your not interested in Irish History.
