  • The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Donato dominates the hill where the first inhabited nucleus of the 13th century was built to accommodate the ruins of San Donato in gothic style. The cathedral is both monumental and scenic. The main facade has three sharp arched portals with the beautiful rosette crowned with arches. On the right side there is a 14th-century Roman-Gothic portal, bordered by two columns in porfido, with a bezel at the top that houses a 13th-century sculptural group with our Lady attuning between San Donato and St. Gregory X and two angels. The hexagonal bell tower is beautiful. The three-nave interior features the frescoed cruise vaults and the colourful stained-glass windows made by William de Marcillat in the 16th century. Inside among the various works of art to be noted the tomb of Gregory X , the altar of Burali the Ark of San Donato, the Magdalene of Piero della Francesca, the Chapel of Our Lady of Conforto with the terracotta statues of Andrea della Robbia, the wooden choir drawn by Giorgio Vasari, the imposing tomb of Bishop Guido Tarlati and the reliquary statue made of polychrome wood.

  • Beautiful, both outside and inside. It is worth the walk from the city center, or easily accessible by car by parking outside the walls in the Parking Pietri (both free and for a fee), and from there you climb with the escalators. You find yourself immediately the Cathedral, and from there you can start the visit to the city.
