Doge's Palace
Take a behind-the-scenes look at how Venice used to be run at Doge's Palace, which once served as the residence of the doges, the city's chief magistrates. Regarded as a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture, the palace is now a popular museum, attracting more than 1 million visitors each year. Works by such artists as Titian, Veronese, Tiepolo, and Tintoretto fill the interior. You can explore the monumental council chambers and richly decorated residential suites where major decisions affecting the city's fate were once made. Look in on the grim prison cells where the doges' political opponents were often locked away. A ticket for the nearby museums also grants access to this palace. Explore your ticket options online, and book well in advance to avoid standing in long lines. Our Venice trip itinerary planner makes visiting Doge's Palace and other Venice attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

This huge palace where everything is richly decorated, from floor to ceiling. Each piece is more beautiful and surprising than the previous one. It's also pretty unique, to see.View original -
We only got to spend a few hours in the Palace due to other commitments, but it was an amazing collection. The bridge of Sighs was a moving experience when you think what the prisoners were thinking. ... more »

Doge's Palace is incredibly beautiful and very interesting. We wandered around on our own rather than getting a tour. We certainly got enough information about the inner workings of the palace and government system by reading the panels in english. It sounded like the tour guides were giving a few interesting little extra stories but we don't think we missed out on too much.

A must do in Venice - get a real perspective of the history of Venice and delight in the art and architecture of Venice at it's peak. We did a guided tour and highly recommend it (along with the Basilica and prisons). Each room is filled with history, inlaid with beautiful wood, carvings, and paintings. Don't miss the Armory - which has a great collection of historic weaponry. Highly recommend doing with as a guided tour.
