Avenue of the Baobabs, Morondava

4.6
Take an ox cart through spectacular scenery and hundreds of years of botanical history at Avenue of the Baobabs, a red dirt road lined on both sides with ancient baobab trees. The giant trees along this 260 m (853 ft) section of the road draw tourists from all corners of the globe. Some of the sacred trees date back over 800 years; in the past, they stood as part of a larger forest, and early Arab travelers described them as ripped up and placed back into the earth upside-down. Reaching for the skies at 30 m (98 ft), the baobabs have a diameter of up to 11 m (36 ft) and circumference of up to 50 m (160 ft). • Yes it can get crowded and busy but it's all worth it. One of the best sight I have witness and amazing opportunity to take photographs. It's a must visit if you are in Mada. Just make sure you go a b...  more »
  • Allee de Baobab is the RN8 highway that connects Morondava to Belo on Tsiribihina, the pavement is made of clay and is passable from May to December after which it is subject to interruption during the rainy period. Walk along the baobab-lined stretch (about 200 mt) where you can still see them up close, at the end of the stretch you find groups of children dancing and playing. Very nice the sunset that falls behind the expanse of Baobab.

  • Enjoy a unique site and one of the most photographed place in Madagascar. It doesn't matter the time of the day, it's always a good moment to enjoy. Of course sunset time is full of tourist trying to get amazing pics. BTW it's possible to fly a drone, but be kind and respect the people on the site.
  • Never seen a place more beautiful that was not on the sea. The sunrise was exquisite the sunset was extra exquisite. I honestly cannot decide which I love more. The baobabs were straight out of all my fantasies. The road was perfect. Just enough Murray. And not nearly enough tarmac. My biKe loved it. The right amount of tarmac vs Murray. The trees were perfect. The people were perfect. The environment was perfect. Perfect perfect perfect. All was well worth the enormous hustle to get to this palace. The hotel was lovely. The service was extra personal. I love Madagascar
