See a huge colony of seals at Cape Cross, a headland protruding into the South Atlantic. Home to some 100,000 seals, the headland serves as one of the world’s largest breeding grounds for Cape fur seals, who feed on the abundance of fish in the cold Benguela Current. Observe mammals basking in the sun and hopping around the rock-studded beach, but remember to bring a handkerchief or a bandana to protect your nose against the powerful smells. See a replica of a cross erected in 1485 by Portuguese navigator Diego Cao, the first European to set foot on Namibian soil. A visit to Cape Cross represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Erongo Region trip planner to plot your vacation.

L'ora ufficiale di apertura dei cancell... more »Halfway between Hentieesbai and the entrance to the skeleton coast park, there is the cape cross reserve, home to a colony of thousands of bear seals. The official opening time of the gates is 10am, but in reality if they are open you can access it well before. The entrance fee is the same as any other national park, i.e. just over 10 euros for two prs and a car. Along the way to the vantage point you begin to observe numerous specimens of coyotes of the gualdrappa, looking for some prey. When you arrive at the parking lot you are immediately struck by the exceptional number of specimens, at very close range, and by the strong smell that the colony emanates. You can also take advantage of a wooden walkway that allows you to cross the colony and to observe more closely both the many puppies and the more adult specimens. ABSOLUTELY NOT TO MISS!!
