On the one hand the landscape was beautiful, on the other hand it was also interesting to see how the locals live in the mountains. Anil told us a lot about cultures, religions, landscape and people. There was no question he didn't answer. Through conversations with the locals we also got an insight into their kitchen one or the other time. Anil was really a very good guide who showed us a lot and always took our wishes into account. We can only recommend a tour with him! Nici and Nadine

I did the Poon Hill Trek with Yoga with Oneals Backpackers as well as sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The program was very varied and super organized. We started sightseeing in Kathmandu. There Oneal brought us closer to the culture of Nepal with his extensive knowledge. He has responded to all our questions and wishes. I found that we didn't visit tourist places like the Nano Buddha Monastery and eat mainly in local "restaurants". The careful choice of hotels also thrilled me - a green, quiet spot in the middle of the hectic Kathmandu and a great wellness oasis in Pokhara. The guesthouses in the mountains had great views and beautiful areas for yoga (green area, roof terrace). The Poon Hill Trek was breathtaking. Oneal told us a lot about the villages, plants and people. It was a beautiful and interesting trek for me. I felt very well taken care of and Am very grateful to Oneal for this great experience. The end was another great day in Kathmandu, which I was able to experience up close with the scooter. Oneal's brother, Sunil, designed the day according to my wishes. This included the city's best Lassi. I can recommend Oneals Backpacker from the heart. If you want to experience an individual and unique holiday, with a reliable, competent and authentic contact person, then you are exactly right at Oneal. I really want to go to Nepal a second time to another region and definitely again with Oneal.
Oneal was able to set up a crazy experience trekking to Everest Base Camp for me and a mate! He tailored the itinerary to our ability and paired us with a fantastic guide who shared his infinite wisdom of the Nepali countryside and culture in fantastic English. Alongside the trek, Oneal showed us around the amazing city of Kathmandu and shared with us the history, culture and food of the region which further enhanced the trip. Would recommend Oneal to anyone planning on trekking any part of Nepal!
The other reviewers have said it so well. Why pay an expensive middle-man tourist company, when you could go direct, and be dealing with the very person who will be leading you on your trek from the very outset? That was one of the many things we valued about Oneal. We had Oneal himself as our guide, but I assume his other guides are just as good. We were still deciding on where to trek when we contacted him, and he helped us choose and customize a route to meet our request for stunning mountain views without too much crazy elevation and crowded trails. Here’s why we liked this company: - Cost. It’s so much more affordable to go direct to the source, rather than book through middlemen. Whenever I can, I look for gems like Oneal and go direct. Have had the very best experiences. - Pre-trip communication. Oneal’s company was outstanding with responding to emails and inquiries. His reliability and professionalism up front was so reassuring. He answered every question thoroughly. I have tried going through 3d parties before, and they keep you waiting while they ask the guide, and then get back to you, with details lost in translation. To me, the pre-trip support was the clincher. - Integrity, honesty, competence. It’s clear that Oneal really enjoys showing visitors his country. Also, he has strong ethics code. Everything was extremely fair and up front and open, no surprises. - His English is outstanding. If you’re going to spend days or weeks with a guide, you need to be able to communicate complex ideas. During our 2 weeks in Nepal, I saw many other guides, and I always thought “I’m glad we have Oneal.” There are some pretty scary guides out there. I felt sorry for people who had grumpy guides, unintelligible guides, or careless guides. - Good company? You’ll spend a lot of time together, so it helps if you become friends. Oneal pulled out tricks to keep us always having fun even when we’re cold and tired. He plays guitar! - Energy, enthusiasm, a great sense of humor, smart problem-solver. For example, just before arriving in Nepal, I had an injury and could barely walk. Oneal re-arranged things on the fly so that I could ride to almost everything, and none of us missed out. Literally, rode a horse at one point up to the teahouse. He took care of everything. When he promised something, like to bring a SIM card the next morning, he followed through. - Customizable. We could ask for things, and Oneal would arrange it. Totally adaptable in itinerary and everything. I was referred to Oneal by someone else who also used him. Everything she said was true. Areas for improvement? I am not really coming up with anything worth saying. I just hope he keeps up his great quality as he gets more popular and busier. I’d like to go explore the Alps, as I hear he’s started guiding there too.
