Standing tall above the city, Volcan Misti is visible from just about anywhere in town. The 5,822 m (19,101 ft) volcano watches over the inhabitants, but many choose to get much closer by attempting to reach the top of this active volcano. The locals recommend booking a guided trek if you’re hoping to reach the summit, as this is a difficult climb due to the need to acclimatize. Be prepared with lots of layers, hat, and gloves as the air on your way can be surprisingly chilly. You'll experience unmatched views from the top. I was able to observe this beautiful snowy volcano, which is considered an active volcano, from the Mirador de Yanahuara and on the road to Carmen Alto. Although the day was a little cloudy, I could observe its majesty as well as the neighboring volcanoes among which the Picchu Picchu volcano stands outView original -
Rising high above the city, El Misti totally dominated the scene. The city is so beautiful and this sleeping giant only adds to the beauty. There are so many good restaurants and places to shop here. ... more »

Challenging climb mainly because of the altitude (5850m). Being acclimatized to a high altitude is an absolute must and make sure you go with an experienced guide. The trek started at an elevation of about 3500m, then we set up the tents at 4500m after a 6-hour climb which was fairly easy. On the second day, things got quite a bit harder; another 6-hour trek to reach the crater. Needless to say that the high altitude kicked in, not to mention that it was a steep climb. Luckily, some parts of the volcano are sandy and perfect to make your way down quickly (2 hours).
