Get in touch with ancient Peruvian history and culture with a visit to Museo Larco. The museum, known in particular for its expansive collection of ceramics dating back some 4,000 years, stands above an ancient pre-Columbian pyramid in an 18th-century viceroy's mansion. You can also see some remarkable hand-woven tapestries, as well as gold and jewels highlighting the wealth of some of Peru's ancient civilizations. Those looking for a more risque encounter can check out the collection of ancient erotic art pieces, which depict sex acts without shame or censorship. Enhance your experience with a guided tour of the museum, available in English. Museo Larco reviews

My family came to the museum and had dinner in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. Our dinner was wonderful and the service was very professional A perfect evening more »
This was one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. The pieces themselves were beautiful and nicely displayed. A unique feature was the quality of the information provided. The 10 minute video was extremely well done and the written descriptions accompanying the displays were clear, succinct, interesting, and always cleverly connected what you were looking at to how we tend to see things today. The restaurant was also very good. The storage room of non displayed pieces (thousands of pieces), open to the public, was also wonderful and unique.
It was a good choice to check this museum out. We went with a guide but you could certainly make it without one. The garden is really pretty with flowers and cactus. The collection of ceramics discovered by Largo family was amazing. I don't know much about Peruvian history but was able to learn some. Some of the figures featured on the porcelains were quite interesting. The section of jewelry was also good. Highly recommended.
