Discovered in 1922, the site contains numerous pyramids made out of adobe clay, thought to have served as platforms for various religious rituals, burials, and offerings. Roam the vast complex by yourself or on a guided tour, and view the pyramids, temples, and tombs--many of which have been robbed by gravediggers. • So many people come to Nasca for 4 hours to get in a plane and see the lines, but Cahuachi is one of a number of fascinating places to check out. There are dozens of Nazca pyramids hidden in sand, but the excavation and restoration of 3 have begun and it's a sight to see. This was a spot of ceremonial and spiritual significance, and scores of artifacts (including trophy heads) have been found here. Thousands of tombs surround the site, unfortunately all of them were destroyed by looters some 70 years ago, but the mystique remains. As is the case with lots of tourist experiences, your enjoyment often depends on your guide, but ours (Arturo) was really great. It's a fun bumpy ride out through the desert to get there too! We were there at sunset and it was particularly beautiful.
  • Great secluded place, note that you have to make 14 km off track each way. The off track is on the plateau where the Nazca glyphs can be found, but they are not readable from the ground
