Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, Moscow

#1 of 191 in Parks in Moscow
Celebrated in countless books, movies, and songs, Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure draws visitors with its cafes, contemporary public art projects, food stands, and sports facilities. Once packed with theme park attractions, the park underwent a major renovation in 2011, losing most of its old-fashioned amusement rides to become an eco-friendly recreational zone. Designed by avant-garde architect Konstantin Melnikov and opened in 1928, the sprawling park now features an open-air theater and free Wi-Fi throughout its 120 hectares (300 acres). Nearly 40,000 visitors come every day to bike, walk, jog, and rollerblade. During the colder months, the park becomes a winter wonderland, its frozen ponds turning into giant skating rinks. Avoid traffic congestion by coming on foot or by public bus. • Hello world! Despite the fame and historicality of this park. It's nothing special. It is worth a visit only, "for a tick" ...

  • Nice to walk through here. On the waterfront you can only find local people. There are a number of eateries. Atmosphere is nice! It was now of course October so the park itself is not so beautiful.

  • Took the wife and kids for a great walk on the first sunny day after 4 months of freezing. Great playing ground for the kids to wear them down at first so you can have the slow and nice walk afterwards with the wife enjoying the view of the sunset at the banks of Moscow river. It has some small fast food kiosks that are surprisingly of good quality and can be digested normally without having to run to WC, although they are spread out through the park and well kept. The sugar candy sands are well located to attract the kids, but adults can enjoy them too with a big smile on their face before reaching the space observatory place where you can and should stand the long line to have a glimpse on the moon and other planets surrounding us.
  • This is my most favourite park in Moscow. It is not so big but very colourful. You can ride on the bike, eat everything you want and also it is located near by Moscow River.
