Grassalkovich Palota, Bratislava

#30 of 307 in Things to do in Bratislava
Landmark · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Once a residence of some of Slovakia's wealthy nobles, Grassalkovich Palota today serves as the home of Slovakia's president. You can view the 18th-century palace's exterior, noting its similarity in terms of design to many other famous European summer palaces of the era. Admire the residence's ornate decorations and style, which combines both Baroque and Rococo architecture. Because the palace serves as an important government facility, it does not open its doors to the public. Be sure to catch the daily changing of the guard ritual, if possible, or go for a stroll in the public gardens surrounding the palace.
