Plantation House, St Helena Island

Government Building · Tourist Spot
See the legacy of the East India Company at Plantation House. Dating back to 1971, the residence served as a summer home for the island’s Governor, who ruled the island until 1834 when it was established as a colony of the English Crown. With the exception of the appointed official who still uses the residence, the lavish manor is unused, although it houses one of the oldest living tortoises of the world. The tortoise is thought to be over 180 years old, and he resides alongside five other giant tortoises. • The opportunity to see the oldest animal in the world with a top-notch house tour by the wonderful Debbie - well worth a visit!
  • Very beautiful mansion with a lot of history. I didn't manage to visit the inside, but from the garden it looks interesting. The old turtle seems to have a right leg problem, but it is almost 200 years old. Recommended place to visit for those interested in history of Saint Helena.
