Nickerie River, Nieuw Nickerie

#6 of 7 in Nature in Suriname
The Nickerie is a river in the northwestern part of Suriname.
The river originates in the Bakhuis Mountains and then flows to the North where it forms part of the border between the Coronie and Nickerie districts. The river then turns West and flows into the Atlantic Ocean via Wageningen and Nieuw-Nickerie. The Blanche Marie Falls are located on the river.
There is a bridge near Groot Henar that is part of the Northern East-West Link. Another, more basic bailey bridge was built near Kamp 52 on the Southern East-West Link.

  • This is such an incredibly nice piece, you keep looking. Do not focus on all the animals you want to see, just look and experience. It's worth it. I had my binoculars with me but I didn't get caught, I was already very happy with just hearing everything and seeing.

  • Fairly wide river between Suriname and Guyana with good views. Crossed by ferry to Guyana for about 40 minutes at the tour turned out to be.
