Presidential Palace, Paramaribo

3.6
Admire one of the best-preserved examples of Dutch colonial architecture at Presidential Palace, part of Paramaribo's World Heritage-listed historical center. This three-story white building, located across from the main square, was built in 1730 and remains the residence of the president of Suriname. Though you probably cannot gain entrance, you can walk around the exterior, taking in the symmetrical stone construction and wooden upper floor. Then visit the palm garden behind the building, home to capuchin monkeys as well as tropical birds. Proximity to the national assembly, court of justice, and ministry of finance makes this a convenient stop on a walking tour. • The presidential palace is an imposing building, occupying a whole side of the Independence Square. Used to accommodate foreign visitors. Beautiful building, all white, but that cannot be visited.
