A notable part of the city, Al Azem Palace (Palace of As'ad, Pasha al-'Azm) remains an ideal attraction for visitors interested in learning about Syrian history. Built during the 1750s, the palace provided a home for the Ottoman governor of Damascus, As'ad Pasha al-Azm. The palace represents a typical example of Damascene traditional architecture--explore the grounds to learn about the building's history, see artifacts housed there, and discover the secrets of the restoration project that took place after the Syrian revolution. Notice how the masons choose to use limestone, basalt, and marble to provide the building with a natural look. Interesting place to see, rich of history and full of culture. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they are willing to explain and talk about the place in a passionate way. However, the place needs to be cleaned and dusted. The fountains must be filled with water in order to show the beauty.
