Khan Asaad Basha, Damascus

4.4
Described as one of the most beautiful buildings in old Damascus, Khan Asaad Basha once served as a place for caravans from all over Middle East to rest. This 2,500 sq m (27,000 sq ft) caravanserai has a large courtyard downstairs, dotted with small shops, while upstairs were 80 rooms for merchants and other people, arranged to overlook the courtyard. Admire the attractive architecture, with black and white marble used for almost all the walls and pillars. On some days an art fair happens here, where you can see numerous paintings, photos, and other artifacts of the era. • This is the finest and biggest example of khans in Damascus.  Khan Asaad Pasha was built during the reign of the Ottoman governor of Damascus Asaad Pasha Al-Azem in the middle of the 18th century.  The Khan has a vast courtyard centred by a large pool of water, and is surrounded by warehouses and shops on the ground level and accommodation rooms on the upper level.
  • what an amazing place to feel relief.
