Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Rai

#1 of 9 in Nature in Chiang Rai
Mountain · Lookout
Delve into a unique cultural experience surrounded by gorgeous mountains at Doi Mae Salong. Originally settled by Chinese refugees after the establishment of Communist rule, the community is now a bubble of Chinese language and customs in Thailand. Visit to see the tea plantations and buy oolong tea for souvenirs, and learn the area’s history at the tomb of General Tuan, a mausoleum of the community’s founder. Speaking Thai here will not be too helpful, but many popular attractions and tours offer English. See Doi Mae Salong and all Chiang Rai has to offer by arranging your trip with our Chiang Rai travel route planning tool.

  • Beautiful landscape going up and down roads 1089 and 1130. Few hundreds meters down from the summit, there is a sleepy and dusty village where locals speak Mandarin. There is a also a 7Eleven store!
  • A really nice mountain village. Lot of shopping opportunities. Be aware of beggars
