Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Budapest Pinball Museum and Wine Tours & Tastings. Visit Fisherman's Bastion and St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika) for their historical value. Explore Budapest's surroundings by going to Kohegy - The Stonehill (in Zamardi), Villa Romana Balaca (in Nemesvamos) and Esztergom (Duna Muzeum, Esztergom Basilica / Cathedral, &more). There's lots more to do: learn about winemaking at Faust Wine Cellar, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Matthias Church, contemplate the long history of Liberty Statue, and shop like a local with Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria).

To see other places to visit, where to stay, maps, and other tourist information, refer to the Budapest route planner.

If you are flying in from India, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. In December, plan for daily highs up to 5°C, and evening lows to -1°C.
