Sheltered in an inlet of Lake Wakatipu, the resort town of Queenstown enjoys a strong reputation for its adventuring and skiing opportunities.
Step off the beaten path and head to Arrowtown Village and Parasailing & Paragliding. Step out of the city life by going to Wanaka and Kiwi Birdlife Park. Take a break from Queenstown with a short trip to Mount Iron Track in Wanaka, about 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: hike along Ben Lomond Track, take the plunge with a skydiving experience, and get engrossed in the history at Lakes District Museum & Art Gallery.

The main tourist town in the Bay of Islands area, Paihia gives visitors a good range of accommodations, a convenient town center, long sandy beaches, and interesting architecture.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Byrne Northland Wines are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Take a break from the city and head to Paihia Harbour and Rainbow Falls. Go for a jaunt from Paihia to Opononi to see Tane Mahuta Walk about 1h 25 min away.
