Eternal City
Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico and Chiesa del Gesu. Attractions like Colosseum and Trevi Fountain make great kid-friendly stops. There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls, contemplate the long history of St. Peter's Basilica, don't miss a visit to Roman Forum, and explore the galleries of Vatican Museums.
For where to stay, reviews, other places to visit, and other tourist information, use the Rome online trip planner .
If you are flying in from India, the closest major airports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport. In October in Rome, expect temperatures between 26°C during the day and 15°C at night. You will have some time to spend on the 23rd (Wed) before leaving for Sorrento.
