First Akmola, then Tselinograd, and now Astana: the city's latest name means "capital," something Astana became in 1998.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Alzhir, Memorial Museum of Victims of Political Repressions and Totalitarianism and President`s Center of Culture & Museum. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Duman Entertainment Centre and Spas. There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Nur-Astana Mosque, stop by Astana Allee, browse the different shops at MEGA Silk Way, and don't miss a visit to Monument Kazakh Eli.

Kolkata (Calcutta), India to Nur-Sultan is an approximately 12-hour flight. You can also drive. Traveling from Kolkata (Calcutta) in September, things will get much colder in Nur-Sultan: highs are around 22°C and lows about 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) to allow time to travel to Baikonur.

A small and historic city, Turkistan has become a major place of pilgrimage, with thousands of Muslims arriving each year to visit its main religious monument.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sat): explore the ancient world of The Intimate Ruins of Sauran, then get engrossed in the history at Historical Culture Ethnographic Center, and then admire the landmark architecture of The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.
