The former capital of Guatemala and a World Heritage Site, Antigua retains its colonial charm and remains one of the most visited destinations in the country.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Antigua: Santo Tomas Church (in Chichicastenango), Guatemala City (Catedral Metropolitana, Paseo Cayala, &more) and Iximche (in Panajachel). There's much more to do: contemplate the geological forces at Volcán Pacaya, delve into the distant past at Convento de las Capuchinas, explore the world behind art at Casa Santo Domingo Museums, and make a trip to The Plaza Central Park.
