Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.
Shibu Onsen has been added to your itinerary. On the 5th (Thu), soak in some Japanese tradition at Shibu Onsen, admire the landmark architecture of Takayama Jinya, then take a stroll through Sanmachi Suji, then see the interesting displays at Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. You can drive from Tokyo to Takayama in 4.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. November in Takayama sees daily highs of 17°C and lows of 9°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Kyoto.
