Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): examine the collection at House of Terror Museum, don't miss a visit to Heroes' Square, then admire the landmark architecture of Vajdahunyad Castle (Vajdahunyadvar), then appreciate the history behind Shoes on the Danube Bank, and finally get a sense of history and politics at Hungarian Parliament Building. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: test the waters at a local thermal spa, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), then take in the views from Szechenyi Lanchid, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Matthias Church, and finally make a trip to Fisherman's Bastion.

To find where to stay, more things to do, and other tourist information, refer to the Budapest trip maker.

If you are flying in from Slovenia, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. September in Budapest sees daily highs of 25°C and lows of 13°C at night.
