Near the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers, Nagano combines historic sites with nearby forested alps dotted with shrines.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Thu): fly down the slopes at Shigakogen Sun Valley Ski Area, look for all kinds of wild species at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Togakushi Shrine Okusha, then identify plant and animal life at Iizuna Highlands Oyachi Marsh, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Zenko-ji Temple. On your second day here, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Ueda Castle.

If you are flying in from Singapore, the closest major airports are Toyama Airport, Komatsu Airport and Niigata Airport. In November, daily temperatures in Nagano can reach 14°C, while at night they dip to 6°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
