Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Fisherman's Bastion and Liberty Statue will appeal to history buffs. Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum and House of Terror Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Budapest with an excursion to Nemzeti Botanikus Kert in Vacratot--about 46 minutes away. There's still lots to do: pause for some serene contemplation at St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), admire the masterpieces at Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria), steep yourself in history at Matthias Church, and admire the striking features of Hungarian Parliament Building.

If you are flying in from India, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. In December, daytime highs in Budapest are 5°C, while nighttime lows are -1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Sun) so you can travel back home.
