Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Step off the beaten path and head to Anonymus Szobor (Anonymous' Statue) and Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum. Step out of Budapest to go to Mor and see Geszler Family Winery, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. Next up on the itinerary: indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area, steep yourself in history at Citadel, admire the landmark architecture of Vajdahunyad Castle (Vajdahunyadvar), and meet the residents at Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden.

To see where to stay, ratings, reviews, and tourist information, use the Budapest road trip site.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. January in Budapest sees daily highs of 37°F and lows of 25°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
