Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Margaret Island and Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Budapest side-trips: Tagore Promenade (in Balatonfured), Dera Creek (in Csobanka) and Baratlakasok (in Tihany). And it doesn't end there: admire the landmark architecture of Hungarian Parliament Building, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), take in the views from Liberty Bridge (Szabadsag hid), and steep yourself in history at Heroes' Square.

To see photos, reviews, other places to visit, and other tourist information, you can read our Budapest trip planner.

If you are flying in from Ireland, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. May in Budapest sees daily highs of 25°C and lows of 11°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) to allow time to travel back home.
