Nearly destroyed by war during the 1990s, the riverside city of Sarajevo now serves as one of the region's major educational, cultural, and commercial hubs.
Explore hidden gems such as War Childhood Museum and Gazi Husrev Begova Medresa. Old Sarajevo Clock Tower and Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain) will appeal to history buffs. The capital and largest city of Serbia, cosmopolitan Belgrade sits on the confluence of the Sava and the Danube rivers.
Get some historical perspective at Residence of Princess Ljubica (Konak Kneginje Ljubice and Crkva Svetog Oca Nikolaja. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Military Museum and Ružica. The adventure continues: contemplate the long history of The National Assembly, wander the streets of Knez Mihailova, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Sava Temple, and get curious at Nikola Tesla Museum.
