Prosperous thanks to its successful cotton growing and processing industry, Mary retains much of the Soviet-era sensibility once prevalent in this part of the world.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Sat): pause for some serene contemplation at Pokrovskaya Church, then delve into the distant past at Gyaur Kala, then don't miss a visit to Gurbanguly Hajji Mosque, and finally get engrossed in the history at National History and Ethnology Museum.
