Manzini

— 3 nights
Swaziland's largest town, Manzini bustles with financial and industrial activity, its inner center dominated by malls and offices.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Manzini Market and Sibebe Rock. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Manzini: Ngwenya Mine (in Ngwenya), Piggs Peak (Tintsaba Crafts & Nsangwini Bushman Paintings) and Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre (in Ezulwini). There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at National Museum, stop by Yebo Contemporary Art Gallery Eswatini, walk around King Sobusha II Memorial Park, and view the masterpieces at Gone Rural.

For other places to visit, maps, photos, and other tourist information, use the Manzini travel planner.

Oslo, Norway to Manzini is an approximately 26-hour flight. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time (CET) to South Africa Standard Time (SAST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Oslo in July, plan for slightly colder nights in Manzini, with lows around 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Simunye.

Landlocked Swaziland remains one of the few absolute monarchies in the world--it's also one of the smallest countries in Africa. Known for its peacefulness and welcoming atmosphere, the country doesn't rush past you (even in the most built-up areas) like some of its neighbors. This laidback atmosphere suits the country, where age-old traditions are practiced in an everyday, rather than a made-for-tourists way. Aside from these singular characteristics, the country matches its better-known neighbors in terms of protected savannah landscapes rich in wildlife, the focal point for tourism in Swaziland.
