Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Kick off your visit on the 26th (Sun): get engrossed in the history at Museo Larco, then get a taste of the local shopping with Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar), then wander the streets of Miraflores, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Centro Historico de Lima.

Toronto, Canada to Lima is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and flight; or do a combination of shuttle and flight. In January, Lima is much warmer than Toronto - with highs of 31°C and lows of 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Sun) so you can drive to Paracas.

A port town largely devoted to tourism, Paracas serves as a popular starting point for exploration of Peru's south coast.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Mon): kick back and relax at Playa Atenas, head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, and then stroll through Playa Roja.

Traveling by car from Lima to Paracas takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In January, plan for daily highs up to 31°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Mon) early enough to travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Take a break from the city and head to Santuario Animal de Cochahuasi and exploor. Sacsayhuaman and Qorikancha will appeal to history buffs. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Sacred Valley of the Incas, see the interesting displays at Museo de Arte Precolombino, explore the ancient world of Tambomachay, and hunt for treasures at Mercado Central de San Pedro.

Getting from Paracas to Cusco by flight takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Paracas, expect little chillier days and much colder nights in Cusco, ranging from highs of 22°C to lows of 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Thu) early enough to travel to Arequipa.

The largest city in the Peruvian Amazon and the world's largest metropolis unreachable by road, Iquitos represents a major starting point for river and rainforest adventures.
On the 1st (Sat), tour the pleasant surroundings at Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm, examine the collection at Museum of Indigenous Amazonian Cultures, then stroll through Amazon Rescue Center, and finally stroll through La Isla De Los Monos.

You can fly from Arequipa to Iquitos in 5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of bus, ferry, and taxi. Traveling from Arequipa in January, things will get much hotter in Iquitos: highs are around 37°C and lows about 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
