A genuine Turkish experience in and of itself, Arasta Bazaar sits right in the city's historical center. Adjacent to the Blue Mosque, the bazaar dates back to the 17th century, when the revenues paid by shop owners were used to finance the upkeep of the mosque. Today it's one of the city's main tourist attractions, drawing visitors from all over the world who seek authentic Turkish goods and atmosphere. Shop for handmade kilims, jewelry, artwork, spices, and other local products. Stop by a traditional coffeehouse and immerse yourself in traditional tastes and aromas. While at the bazaar, you can also visit the Mosaic Museum, which displays mosaics from the Byzantine Great Palace, which once stood here. Arrange to visit Arasta Bazaar and other attractions in Istanbul using our Istanbul day trip planning site.

  • Arasta Bazaar is a favourite of mine (for the last 15 years I have come to Istanbul 2/3 times a year). Is little and not as “aggressive” as the Grand Bazaar but you can find all the same things (just....  more »

  • A market of the Ottoman period. Now completely tourist products are sold. Prices are expensive. You need to negotiate. At the end of the bazaar there is an area selling crafts and it is cheaper. There is also a museum in this area. There is a cafe in the area where handicrafts are sold, overlooking the beautiful sea. A beautiful market that resembles the old Ottoman.
  • My favourite place. Absolutely loved it. The spice and sweet shop at the entrance of the bazaar- we were welcomed by such a nice man offering us tea and Turkish delights. And the restaurant/coffee shop also at the entrance in the small street felt so cosy while watching people pass by. The bazaar is small but has a everything to see. The best in Istanbul
