Park · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Military Park is a 6-acre (24,000 m2) city park in Downtown Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. Along with Lincoln Park and Washington Park, it makes up the three downtown parks in Newark that were laid out in the colonial era. It is a nearly triangular park located between Park Place, Rector Street and Broad Street.

The New Jersey Historical Society, Military Park Building, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Robert Treat Center and the newly built One Theatre Square and 50 Rector St buildings are located across Park Place from the park. A $3.25 million renovation led by Dan Biederman was announced in February 2012. The reconstruction was expected to be completed in late 2013, but due to harsh weather was postponed until spring 2014. A casual restaurant, Burg, does business in the park. The park reopened in June 2014.

  • Another lovely park in the heart of Downtown Newark I enjoy going to. Precovid the summer months there is an abundance of activities and festivals here. And the carousel is a fun ride for all ages.  more »
  • Situated right smack in downtown Newark center, this is one of the oldest parks in the city. Could call it vintage. Benches, greenery, across from NJPAC and underground parking, prices to be a great.....  more »
  • This is a beautiful little park set right in the middle of downtown Newark. There is a very good restaurant, Burg here with outdoor seating. Alas, it is only open on weekdays. The park itself has many nice seating areas in beautifully landscaped gardens. They have a small carousel, charging stations, and a lot of special programing such as outdoor films and yoga, free concerts, etc.
  • Military Park was a short walk from our hotel (TRYP Hotel). It was a cute but well maintained park with some interesting statues and things to look at. From a bust of JFK, a military statue led by George Washington to a cute little carousel, we enjoyed a short walk before making our way back to our hotel. At 8:00 there were a member of people in the park and we felt very safe.
