SS Jeremiah O'Brien, San Francisco

Historic Site · Ship
Learn a bit of military history by exploring SS Jeremiah O'Brien, one of nearly 7,000 ships that stormed Normandy on D-Day. Located on San Francisco's popular waterfront, this historic ship is one of the city's premiere attractions. Though 2,710 Liberty vessels were built during the war, this is one of only two fully functional ships still in existence. Hop aboard this living museum for a glimpse into the life of a wartime sailor. Explore the space and learn about the war through informative displays at this National Historic Landmark. • We enjoyed seeing the SS Jeremiah O'Brien in San Francisco. We've toured it before. This time due to the fire it was relocated. It was nice to see the ship again.  more »

  • A must see experience in San Francisco. The story of the ship and simply being on this vessel is an incredible experience. The volunteers are absolutely awesome people, and they were delighted to fill me in on anything that came up. Make sure to check out the engine room and the crew quarters...and everything. See everything. Great for anyone interested in history.
  • Fascinating history. If you go (totally worth the $20) be sure to watch the movie in the museum. So thankful for all the brave men who served on her to deliver supplies and soldiers during WWII.
