Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum
Learn all about the world's very first flying doctor service, established in Alice Springs in 1926, at Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum. The flying doctor service has provided 24-hour emergency medical assistance for over 80 years to those who live, work, and travel throughout Australia. Today, the service provides care to more than 275,000 Australians each year. You can visit the original working base of the service, in operation since 1939. This is a non-profit organization, with all of its earnings made from tours, purchases made at the on-site cafe, and online store. All proceeds go toward medical equipment. We found this Museum so very interesting. There was a fitted out plane to walk through, and the virtual reality goggles flight with patient and nurse aboard was amazing. Also a nice film to watch.

Great experience of how John Flynn started the royal flying doctor service. Good souvenir shop, there is a movie to watch in the place, there is virtual reality glasses to experience the patient or pilot of the royal flying doctor service. There is also a life size replica of the plane that you can go inside. You have to pay to go in but it's worth it. Overall great experience.

This is a well worth doing tour of one of Australia's unique to the world icons. It is worth learning the history of how it came about, the people responsible and how the operation has changed over the decades. Buy an item from the gift shop or make a donation on your way out, it is so important to the RFDS's continuation. 😁❤
