Jutting skywards in a wide open swathe like giant headstones at an odd cemetery, Magnetic Termite Mounds form one of the most impressive and surreal sights at the heart of the Litchfield National Park. The towering 2 m (6.6 ft) mounds--made of saliva, sand, and termite feces--are aligned with the path of the sun in order to keep their busy little residents cool inside. Learn more facts about these intriguing bio-structures unique to Northern Australia at the information shelter. Follow the boardwalks to get close to the mounds.
