Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum
The history of the Lithgow Small Arm Factory is about people - their aspirations, disappointments, and achievements, the economic and social hardships endured, the influence of our British heritage on Australia in the early 1900s, and sheer human stubborness. It is also about the introduction of new technologies into the emerging new nation. The Lithgow Factory was Australia's first high precision mass production facility.Put Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Lithgow trip itinerary app.
The Museum was formed to celebrate this history, and has the largest displayed collection of modern firearms from around the world in Australia. Other displays include the commercial items produced between wars to preserve the valuable skills of the factory workforce, and show the production processes and social history of this renowned facility. In 2006 an extensive handgun collection was donated to the Museum and is on display in the Ron Hayes Gallery.

Much better than anticipated. Friendly staff and will be even better when the displays are all completed. Definitely worth visiting.

The fantastic museum is now expanded to include machines in the adjoining General Machine Shop. The upgrades and improvements are a credit to the dedicated volunteers. One area under renovation...

Be sure to be a gun fan if you're coming here. I felt it was years of gun evolution spread across every wall. The initial part of the museum has some interesting fact boards before moving into the room of firearms. It's a nice place to swing by and pop in, and I love that the volunteers are passionate about the place. Looking forward to the factory out the back becoming part of the self guided tour, we received an escort as it's still unsafe to be roaming around and there's a lot of history here

An absolute must visit when in Lithgow, the history here is just amazing. The factory produced so much more than firearms and war items, domestic items we use every day were also made here. The ability of the factory to adapt to changing requirements and the high quality produced is a credit to those who worked there. Friendly, helpful staff make it a great spot to visit.
