Spend a few hours wandering the myriad stalls at Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere. Originating as a small market east of the city in the 1850s, the market today covers seven hectares (17 acres) in the Melbourne Central Business District. Shop for a variety of food, clothing, shoes, jewelry, and crafts. Make sure you try a hot doughnut from the van that's been operating here for more than 50 years. This is truly one of the must places to visit if you travelling to Melbourne. Even for locals this is the place for fresh produce and getting things cheap. The whole experience is a great one.

Best Market Around! Fresh produce is the cheapest, yet has the most flavour. The deli has everything you could ever need. Great butcher with organic, free range and hormone free options. And the coffee options are brilliant. We love our weekly shops at the market.

Queen Victoria Market is I think an Australian national treasure. You can find some of the best deals on fresh produce in a very old school bazaar atmosphere. Great selection of food and great way to shop. When we are outside of Melbourne traveling we truly miss it. Big super markets don't come close to Queen Victoria Market. Recent deli and smaller markets making a come back though. I highly recommend at least checking it out. It is also great for tourists to experience those place as well.
