Create an itinerary including Penguin Island
Situated inside the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, Penguin Island is home to a colony of little penguins, the largest population of birds in Western Australia. Regular ferries carry tourists to and from the island, and access is also available by private boat. Only a small population of captive penguins can be viewed, but the island offers many other sights, including nesting seabirds and a large colony of pelicans, numbering nearly 500 birds. You can also swim, snorkel, take kite-boarding lessons, join kayaking tours, or simply enjoy a picnic. Remember to take your own food and drink, as none can be purchased on the island. Make Penguin Island a centerpiece of your Rockingham vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Rockingham attractions planner.

  • Great place to visit! The ferry ticket is $25 round trip bought at the information center. There are a lot of pelicans living here . The whole island can be covered in about an hour also here great for surfing and snorkel!
  • Canoeing to the Penguin island felt like a nice little adventure for us. We've been guided by Rivergod to do canoeing from Sealion island to Penguin island. It was on December, not too hot and a bit windy. It was a perfect day for us as the guide gave us all the information about the island and the animals there. I would recommend to get yourself a guide if you want to go with your family. Otherwise, visiting by yourself and relax will be fun too.
