Housing the collection of Fritz Mayer van den Bergh, Museum Mayer van den Bergh was built by the collector's mother to honor her son's life. Renaissance and Gothic artwork covers almost every wall in the patron's house. These include drawings, sculptures, paintings, and applied art from the 14th to the 16th centuries, a period that was an obsession for the collector. Many pieces are religious in nature, since much of the artwork from these early periods was commissioned by the church. Each room also includes carved wood and marble, as well as grand fireplaces and reliefs on the ceilings that give you a lot of nooks and crannies to explore. Don't miss the three Pieter Bruegel paintings depicting medieval daily life. Purchase tickets for the museum upon arrival. You have the option to purchase a discounted combo ticket that includes visits to the Rubens House, or an Antwerp Card, which gives you access to multiple city museums. Using our custom trip planner, Antwerp attractions like Museum Mayer van den Bergh can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Amazing collections. The story of Mr Fritz Mayer van den Burgh and his mother is very touching too . The Mad Meg is really a masterpiece. Though everyone loves Pieter Bruegel,Quentin Matsys, the smith painter, also great, if I remember it right a very old bar in the town has his painting.

This place was superb. It has one of the best collections of Brugal's artwork. The man behind this collection was key to defining and persevering his works. It really is a gem of a museum in Antwerp.
