Admire spectacular limestone formations at Grottes de Hotton, a set of caves in the Ardennes. Elaborately coated by speleothem, a secondary mineral deposit, the cave walls make for some fabulous underground scenery, with a maze of galleries and a stream. Discovered in 1958, this cave system is some 5-6 km (3-3.7 mi) long and 70 m (230 ft) deep. Take a guided tour to explore the rooms and balconies, admire shapes and shades, and hear the roar of the underground water in a 40 m (131 ft) deep chasm. At the end of the tour, stop by the visitor center for more information or a coffee at the cafeteria terrace. PutGrottes de Hotton into our Hotton trip planning website and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We arrived a couple of minutes late due to heavy traffic and deviations in the area. The staff had absolutely no understanding for this and told us this was our own problem and that they were full...

  • A nice place to visit when it's warm. With the nice constant 12 degrees it is a bit cool down in the cave. A tour possible in French, Dutch and English. The tour was given by a student guide who could tell a lot about the cave and it's history. Really cool to see such old things so deep down. For sure a go-to location when you are in the area.
  • I went without planning and was able to get the tickets at the cashier. We had to wait like 15 minutes for the tour to start. The tour guide was a teenage girl but did really well. She spoke in French, English and some Dutch. I was impressed with the depth we went to. I believe 900m. The formations were beautiful. The atmosphere among the rest of the group was really nice too. Kids came along too. We had to go up and down a few stairs to reach the bottom. All in all an impressive experience.
