Providing animals with open space that matches their original habitat is the goal of ZOO Planckendael, a very modern zoo. Occasionally some animals are released from the habitats to walk among the people, such as a parade of penguins that follows a handler's bucket of fish. Kids will appreciate the petting zoo, where they can touch friendly goats, while adults may prefer the large cats and the elephants. Ask for a map and a list of feeding times at the ticket kiosk to help you plan your day. Consider bringing a picnic lunch with you to save money on food. You can also save a few euros on the entrance fee by purchasing a ticket online. The habitats are large and take time to walk around, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. It's a wonderful place to spend a day with the kids with plenty to entertain both my 1.5 year old and my 3.5 year old. The only downside is that there are not a lot of toilets, and the toilets next to the water play area were on the cramped and busy side and did not smell very good. Toilets in other areas of the park were better.
It is a very nice zoo. They have a lot of different animals organized by continents and the information and explanations of each is quite good. The place seems to be well maintained and it has been stereotypically decorated according to each continent which can be nice to give a certain vibe to the place. The prices for the entrances appeared expensive to me but in the end these seem to be the usual prices for going to a zoo like this in Belgium. It seems to be a great place to go with children.
